A Full Plate

UNH's Institute on Disability (IOD) runs dozens of programs, demonstration projects, seminars, conferences and workshops, and publishes a wide variety of information in pamphlets and books. The institute's newest project, announced in July 2000, is a $5 million collaborative agreement between two federal agencies and the institute to conduct a national demonstration on housing and financial access.

Some of the IOD's other projects:

  • Inclusive Education: SCANS (Supporting Children with Autism in Natural Settings); Partnerships for Educational Innovations; Inclusion Facilitator Training Program; Equity and Excellence in Higher Education.
  • Policy Development: National Clearinghouse on Welfare Policy and Disability; the National Clearinghouse on Managed Care and Long-Term Services and Support for Adults with Developmental Disabilities and Their Families (MCARE).
  • Assistive Technology: Assistive Services to Schools for Education, Technology, and Training; the New Hampshire Assistive Technology Partnership Project.
  • Leadership Opportunities: New Hampshire Leadership Series; and the Advanced Leadership Series.
  • Self-Determination: Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Initiative in Self-Determination for Persons With Developmental Disabilities.
  • National Home of Your Own Alliance.
  • Transition and Employment Services: Career Enhancement Opportunities; Rehabilitation Continuing Education Program (RCEP); Facilitating Natural Supports in the Workplace; School-Based Transition Project.

In addition, the IOD was instrumental in helping to establish the Hood Center for Family Support at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and the Institute for Health, Law and Ethics at Franklin Pierce Law Center.
