NEW VICE PRESIDENT: Peter B. Weiler has been named vice president for advancement and president of the UNH Foundation. Weiler is the former senior vice president for development at Ohio State University. Previously he held a number of senior positions in development and alumni relations at Penn State. President Mark Huddleston praised Weiler's "caliber and talents," adding, "I know his expertise will bring us to a new level of alumni engagement and fundraising."

PROVOST NAMED: Professor of natural resources John Aber, a former vice president for research, was named provost and vice president for academic affairs. Aber is a University Professor, UNH's highest form of recognition for excellence in teaching, scholarship and engagement. He is internationally known for his research on nitrogen cycling and the effects of acid rain on forests.

NEW DEANS: Kenneth Fuld, professor and former chair of psychology, was named dean of the College of Liberal Arts in November 2009. Fuld served most recently as interim dean of the college. He joined the dean's office as an associate dean in January 2008. Samuel B. Mukasa '77, chair of the geological sciences department at the University of Michigan, has been named the dean of the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences. He holds a B.S. in geology from UNH, an M.S. in geology from Ohio State and a Ph.D. in geochemistry from UC Santa Barbara. He will assume his new position in January 2011.

EOS DIRECTOR: Astronomer Harlan Spence was named director of the Institute for the Study of Earth, Oceans and Space. Spence was most recently a professor of astronomy at Boston University and brought to UNH six research projects totaling more than $55 million in federal funding.
