Thanks to a "talkative" group of undergraduate phonathon callers, gifts and pledges in support of the university's five colleges are up 80 percent.

One student caller, Lyn Wilay '02, attributes this year's successful Annual Fund appeal to good organization, good people and a lot of enthusiasm. "Actually asking for a contribution is always the most difficult part," says the art education major from Salem, N.H., "but the conversations with alumni are always great. They want to know about everything from the weather to news of a favorite professor."

Gifts and pledges to the Annual Fund are counted as part of the university's Next Horizon campaign, which recently passed the $70 million mark on the way toward the $100 million goal.
