David Frankfurter, associate professor of history, received the American Association of Religion's Award for Excellence in the Study of Religion for his second book, Religion in Roman Egypt: Assimilation and Resistance. The book illustrates cultural resistance and examines the fate of classical Egyptian religion in the period after Christianity's first appearance in Egypt to its later dominance in the area.
Ihab Farag, professor of chemical engineering, was awarded a WasteCap Environmental Excellence Award by the New Hampshire Business and Industry Association for his work in pollution prevention. Farag is director and founder of the New Hampshire Pollution Prevention Partnership and Internship Program, placing UNH chemical engineering students in businesses and saving businesses in the state a combined $2.5 million through student-initiated pollution-prevention projects.
Graham Gund Architects, the firm that designed the renovation and expansion of Dimond Library, has received two awards for the design. The New York Council Society of American Registered Architects presented the firm with an award for superior achievement and professional design excellence. And the Boston Society of Architects also chose the Dimond project for commendation.
