The UNH football team made its seventh trip in eight years to the NCAA Division I FCS tournament in December but lost 26-25 to Montana State in the first round. The outcome was eerily similar to a game 35 years ago, when UNH fell 17-16 at Montana State in the quarterfinals of the Division II tournament, a game that was also decided on a missed extra point. UNH football coach Sean McDonnell '78 (at right, with football) played safety in the 1976 game. The 2011-12 season ended 6-2 in the conference, 8-4 overall.
