UNH's Operation Hat Trick, a program that provides baseball caps to wounded soldiers, has expanded to more than 30 colleges. Dedicated to the memory of Nate Hardy and Mike Koch, two Navy SEALs who were killed in Iraq in 2008, the project was initiated by Dot Sheehan '71, senior associate athletic director, when she heard that what soldiers with head injuries most often asked for upon their return home was something to cover their heads. Nate Hardy was the son of UNH kinesiology professor Steve Hardy and his wife, Donna. More than 10,000 hats have been distributed to wounded soldiers since the program began.
