Karl Emerson '78, director of the Pennsylvania bureau of charitable organizations, was named one of the 50 most influential people in non-profit community by the magazine NonProfit Times. Emerson was appointed bureau director in 1995: previously he was with the Pennsylvania Office of Inspector General.

She was a sponsor of legislation in 1993 that established the Healthy Kids Corporation to provide health insurance to uninsured and under-insured children.
