John Ernest, associate professor of English and director of African American Studies, received the Higher Education Faculty Member Award from the New Hampshire College and University Council for excellence in classroom teaching.
Berrien Moore III, director of the Institute for the Study of Earth, Oceans, and Space, received an Administrator's Special Recognition Award from NOAA at a ceremony in May.
Harry Richards, formerly associate dean of the Graduate School and interim dean since July 2003, has been appointed dean. Richards previously managed the Center for Graduate and Professional Studies in Manchester, N.H.
Alan Ray, associate dean for academic affairs at Harvard Law School, has been named vice provost for academic affairs. A member of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma, Ray holds a bachelor's in philosophy from Saint Thomas Seminary College, a master's in theological studies from Harvard Divinity School, a J.D. from the University of California and a Ph.D. in religion from Harvard.
Ben Schultz '97, a principal technical architect of the UNH Inter-Operability Lab's Moonv6 project, was honored as a key advocate of the next-generation Internet protocol, IPv6. Schultz is the youngest person ever to win the Internet Pioneer award.
Sharon Washington Demers '73 has been named assistant vice president of human resources. Demers, who has worked in UNH's human resources department for 27 years, was most recently interim assistant vice president of human resources.
