President Mark Huddleston called the Class of 2009 "the greenest class ever to graduate from the Blue and White" at commencement exercises on May 23. While keynote speaker Gary Hirshberg, CEO of Stonyfield Farm, was calling for "a whole new technological wave of renewable energy," the event was being powered by EcoLine, UNH's landfill gas-to-energy project, a first in the nation. Other sustainable measures: invitations were sent electronically, programs were printed on 100 percent recycled paper, shuttle buses were fueled by biodiesel and compressed fuel, and leftovers were sent to Kingman Farm for composting. Above, the wildcat sculpture, sporting a mortarboard, is surrounded by a sea of new alumni with family and friends.
