Dana Hamel ’88P, right, and Dr. Jim Squires, left, received the Hubbard Award and the Pettee Medal, respectively, in September. Hamel, the father of Karen Hamel Simas ’88 and a longtime UNH donor, most recently established the Dana A. Hamel Scholarships and Scholars Program to attract the state’s top high school seniors and to recognize outstanding UNH juniors. Squires, a surgeon, businessman and politician, helped establish the state’s first HMO in the early ’70s. He is the second person in his family to receive the Pettee Medal: his father, historian J. Duane Squires, received the medal in 1976.
