The New Hampshire's sports cartoonist in the early 1940s was Alfred "Freddie" Maurice '44, and architecture major who attended UNH for two years until he was drafted by the Army. Maurice befriended members of the football team — fellow waiters at The Commons — hence the friendly joshing above ("Hey Luigi!"). This Sept. 30, 1941, cartoon featured Hal Hall '42, Joe Gordon '42, Roy Goodfellow '43, Bill Feeny '42, Stacey Clark '42 and Luigi Pino '44. Maurice, now an art professor emeritus and an acclaimed artist, lives in Vancouver, Wash.
